When it was created, it initially symbolized the ground, the world axis created by fire, and the glowing half dome of light around it and the differentiating lines of an ordered world extending outward from the center of the fire. As the design evolved, it became obvious that it also resembled the business end of an open vajra — the lightning weapon held by Indra and, under a different name, Zeus, as well as many other ancient Striker gods. Various Buddhists still employ a form of the vajra today — albeit usually with closed ends. We prefer the active weapon — ready to strike. March Meditation Challenge -- Many members of the March Meditation Challenge -- Many members of the Order of Fire are committing to do a Solar Meditation for 10-20 minutes daily. You don’t have to be a member of the Order to join us in this endeavor. There are many styles of meditation and many reasons to meditate. We use Solar Meditation as a form of focused contemplation to align our unconscious and conscious minds as we reflect on the Sun as an ordering force in the solar system. We perform Solar Meditations using a soundtrack titled “Crossing the Night Sea” that was designed for this purpose. You can find it via the links in our bio. Your objective for the meditation is to generate an image of the sun in your mind, and keep track of it. Ideally, the sun is traveling over a night sea. As you focus on the sun, and keep it central in your mind, think about what it is, and what it means. Ultimately, this meditation uses the sun as a symbol that reinforces our highest values and orients us toward excellence. The first conversational podcast was with our in-house Sanskrit and Vedic enthusiast, Ed, in which we explored the concept of The Dragon in the Rig Veda. We haven’t posted much here recently because we’ve been working on so many projects internally that will come to fruition soon and over the summer. Last night, we recorded a podcast on the subject of fatherhood with three of the fathers in The Order. It was really positive and it should be released in a few days. I’ll be looking at applications again for the Order of Fire soon, so if you’ve thought about joining, now would be a good time — many good things are underway. Standing Watch is another facet of pulling your we Standing Watch is another facet of pulling your weight as a man and is an integral part of what men do daily at the perimeter. It demands quite a bit from the men in the group; not just a tremendous amount of trust and mutual respect but also a sense of teamwork, self-sacrifice, and duty to your fellow tribesmen.  Standing watch is a staple of MIL/LEO/FD/EMS jobs but young men going from classroom to cubicle, drowning in escapism, will have very little understanding of its importance. I would consider Standing Watch as another one of those critical rites of passage for young men that they are not getting, has no substitute, and a lack thereof is contributing to the degradation of masculinity in the west. Winter Solstice is coming next week, and we’ve b Winter Solstice is coming next week, and we’ve been discussing ways to observe it in The Order of Fire. Winter Solstice observances among various kinds of pagans generally attempt to recreate the traditions of ancient ancestors or peoples. While we are inspired by the past and see value in observing the longest night of the year — especially as Men of the Sun — we also recognize that we have access to information about the sun that our ancestors didn’t have, and we inhabit a different reality. It has always been the work of man to imitate the gods — to build fires in the dark to create warmth and light, and through that light, bring order to a chaotic world. The light of the sun creates this order during the day, and men imitate and recreate what the sun provides when the sun disappears from view. On the longest night of the year, it makes sense to take time to recognize and ritualize this role. When the sun goes down, men hold the light. Here are some observances I’ve suggested to Solar Idealists. With each version, keep in mind the themes mentioned above and the significance of the occasion. 1. Light a candle on your altar and perform a solar meditation.  2. Light small a backyard fire at the moment of sunset on the Winter Solstice— such as the commercial fire pits that many people have — and perform a solar meditation with open eyes while focusing on the fire.  3. Build a Sun Cross ⨁ or Wheel and burn it at the moment of sunset on the Winter Solstice, observe the burning, and perform a solar meditation with closed eyes after the cross has burned.  4. Build a larger fire and and perform a solar meditation with open eyes while focusing on the fire. 5. Build a larger fire and and perform a solar meditation with open eyes while focusing on the fire, tend the fire all night, thinking about the encroaching darkness and chaos and your job as a man to keep it at bay and create an ordered perimeter of light around you.  6. The original aim of the PH2T3R project was to use The original aim of the PH2T3R project was to use art to bring ideas — specifically the syncretic masculine god-archetypes of The Father, The Striker, and The Lord of the Earth — to life. When I started the project, after publishing my book, Fire in the Dark, AI art wasn’t in the picture. But over the past 9 months or so, it’s become a fascinating (and somewhat terrifying) tool for creation and exploration of these ideas. And it’s given men who don’t have a background in the visual arts an opportunity to create in a new way. The first incarnations of AI art were wonky, especially with humans, but this is where the technology is now. I’ve been able to generate a lot of images that captured the idea of The Father or The Striker, but this is the first one that really struck me and said — “that’s the Lord of the Earth.” Or, at least, that is one of his incarnations. The basic concept of Solar Idealism is to compress the god-archetypes from various cultures and times into eternal masculine ideals — tied to no one time or culture, but to the idealized excellences of men. The Lord of the Earth is the idealized version of the man who contends with material reality and the natural world. Everything men do isn’t hunting or fighting or making rules. We just celebrated Thanksgiving in America, which is a Lord of the Earth harvest holiday. Two friends of mine recently helped their wives give birth. That’s certainly The Lord’s work. Other friends and many members of The Order of Fire harvested deer and one even shot a moose.
